December 10,000m event in Sacramento, CA

The ‘Pacific 10,000m Pursuit’ will be held December 6, 2015 in Sacramento’s Hornet Stadium, as a collaborative effort between Sacramento State Track & Field, the NorCal Distance Project and Strava Track Club.

Positioned in advance of an upcoming outdoor track season that will culminate with the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, this unique 10,000m race opportunity is designed to offer elite men and women an additional opportunity to seek 10,000m Olympic qualifying standards on American soil before the end of the calendar year, at a time when many athletes will possess the necessary fitness levels to pursue such a goal following fall training and road racing schedules.

Races will be conducted in accordance with USATF competition rules in order for all times to be certified for qualification and performance list purposes, creating the chance for athletes to earn qualifying standards and times that will rank on the 2015 outdoor performance lists. While the objective of Olympic Games standards will remain the top priority for both races, the meet schedule may be expanded to offer additional 10,000m race fields if sufficient interest exists for targeting times closer to the probable US Olympic Trials standards.
